Emotionspaces is a series of sonic (impressions of) spaces that have been shaped by emotions. They are spaces that do not exist, created by emotions that do.
Exploring emotions in imaginative ways can teach us about our relationship to and how to share them. When listening to emotionspaces, one can relate to one’s own feelings in a new way and, in addition, learn more about the experiences others may have.
Emotionspaces is the result of the first collaboration between Mareike Dobewall and Josué Moreno, two composers who predominantly work in large public spaces, with big choirs and ensembles, or a significant number of loudspeakers. With this radio piece, they collaborate to bring the audience to an intimate, vulnerable, and yet monolithic series of imagined spaces created by emotions not usually acknowledged as they escape our language boundaries.
Emotionspaces was performed live at the Rikhardinkatu library in Helsinki (Finland) on the 3rd of September 2022 at 14:00 by Mareike Dobewall and Josué Moreno as Edviice to celebrate the 140 years since the library's opening.

The radio piece premiered on the 28th of August 2022 at 18:00 local time (UTC +2) on YLE Radio 1 and a second radio air time happened on the 29th of August 2022 at 19:02 local time (UTC +2)

The project was commissioned by Yle (the Finnish national radio) and supported by Kulturfonden. The recording and mixing happened at the Music Technology Department of the University of the Arts Helsinki / Sibelius Academy.
